Birdworld is launching its first-ever photography competition, inviting visitors of all ages to capture the beauty and character of the park’s birds this summer.

The competition, organised in partnership with Kiln Photo, is open to three age groups: children aged 12 and under, teenagers aged 13 to 17, and adults aged 18 and over.

There are four categories to enter: Bird Portrait, Bird Behaviour, Abstract, and Groups of Birds/Other. Participants can submit one image per category, with photographs taken on digital cameras, film cameras or smartphones all eligible.

To ensure a level playing field, all entries must be taken at Birdworld. Photographers are encouraged to showcase the park’s birdlife through striking portraits, behavioural moments or more creative and artistic interpretations.

Basic editing, including cropping and colour correction, is permitted, but images must remain a genuine representation of the original photograph. Entries that have been created or significantly altered using artificial intelligence will not be accepted.

Photographs will be judged by a panel from Birdworld and Kiln Photo, with entries assessed on creativity, originality, composition, technical quality and interpretation of the chosen category.

One winner will be selected in each category, while a number of runners-up will also be recognised. Winning and shortlisted images will be displayed in a public exhibition at Birdworld, giving photographers the opportunity to see their work showcased to visitors.

Birdworld says the competition is designed to encourage visitors to engage with nature in a new way while celebrating the rich variety of birdlife found throughout the park.
