We are also very aware of the mentoring responsibilities a keeper has in ensuring the next generation of keepers can develop the skills they need to offer the best care, and keep this industry always looking forward.
Our volunteer and work placement positions are suitable for students in animal-based sciences, or those wishing to develop skills in the zoo industry. They are a great introduction to the Zoo working environment, enabling the development of a range of husbandry skills and techniques, and building confidence in the workplace.
Due to the complex nature of the animals and the environment we work in, there are necessary limitations to these roles, please contact us for more details.

This special status is awarded to organisations where workplace engagement shows promising signs for the future. To achieve it, a company needs a BCI score of at least 600, reflecting ‘good’ levels of workplace engagement. For us, it highlights that our team feel valued, supported, and excited about the journey we’re on together. It shows that Birdworld is a workplace full of energy and ambition, where people’s ideas and efforts really matter.
For our visitors and partners, it’s also a lovely reassurance that we care just as much about looking after our staff as we do our animals – creating a happy, thriving place for everyone.
