Birdworld Play Areas: Rules of Use

Please read follow our rules to keep everyone happy and safe when entering play.

General Play Area Rules

  • Play is determined by ability, not age to encourage exploration and free play. We have a dedicated Toddler Area for age four and under.
  • Children must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult.
  • Adults are welcome to accompany children on the play structures.
  • Birdworld accepts no liability for injuries incurred on the play.
  • Adults must assess the abilities of their children and ensure they use equipment suitable for their age and ability.
  • Height and age restrictions are in place for safety reasons and must be followed.
  • Running is not permitted inside the indoor play area.
  • Climbing on the exterior of equipment, barriers, or fences is not allowed.
  • Shoes must be clean and appropriate for the play equipment.
  • Food and drink (including chewing gum) are not allowed on any play equipment or in designated play spaces.
  • Smoking or vaping is not permitted anywhere on the Birdworld site.
  • Alcohol and barbecues (BBQs) are not allowed on site.
  • Only disposable crockery and cutlery may be used outdoors.
  • Picnics and own food may only be consumed in designated outdoor picnic areas or the indoor café seating.
  • Only one person to use a slide at one time and go down feet first.
  • Children should not walk/climb up slides or use equipment in a manner contrary to instructions.
  • Once children have finished using a piece of equipment, they must move away to allow others a turn.
  • Do not throw items that could cause injury.
  • Please respect the equipment and other users.
  • Lost property: Birdworld cannot accept responsibility for personal belongings brought into play areas.
  • All accidents or concerns for safety must be reported to a member of staff.
  • Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.
  • Capacity levels are monitored regularly, so access to play maybe limited.
  • Please follow all staff instructions at all times — they are there to help keep everyone safe.
  • Birdworld reserves the right to restrict access to play. Please adhere to additional signage.

Water Play Area Rules

  • Appropriate non-slip footwear is recommended to prevent slips.
  • Do not drink the water in the play area.
  • No food or drink should be consumed in or around the water play area.
  • Children with open wounds or skin infections should not use the water play.

Clothing & Personal Items

  • Children should wear appropriate clothing — ideally covering arms and legs to reduce risk of scrapes or injury.
  • All sharp items and loose objects (jewellery, badges, belts, phones etc.) should be removed before using any play equipment.
  • Pockets should be emptied before playing.
  • Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times.

Health & Well-being

  • Children showing signs of illness, including diarrhoea or vomiting, must not visit Birdworld until 48 hours after symptoms have stopped.
  • Children with contagious illnesses (such as chickenpox, hand, foot & mouth, or impetigo) should not use the play areas until fully recovered.
  • Any accidents or incidents must be reported to a member of staff and will be recorded.
  • If there are any incidents involving vomit, urine, or faeces, please notify a member of staff immediately.
  • Fighting, bullying, or any behaviour deemed unsafe, destructive, or inappropriate will not be tolerated. Please report concerns to a staff member.

Photography & Filming

  • You are welcome to take photos or videos of the children in your care.
  • Please respect the privacy of others and avoid photographing or filming children not in your group unless you have the permission of their parent or guardian, especially if posting on social media.

Weather & Maintenance

  • For safety reasons, certain play areas may be closed during poor weather or when maintenance is required.
  • CCTV is in operation across Birdworld for safety and security.
