Our Gardens

Set within 26 acres, there is far more to Birdworld than the amazing range of animals. Gardens and landscaped areas weave throughout the aviaries and paddocks and every season has something new to offer.

From early in the year spring bulbs add a splash of welcome colour. This is soon added to by the blossom of trees and early flowering shrubs and greenery bursting out all around. An abundance of rhododendrons and azaleas add to this show and are soon followed by  the herbaceous paint palette of summer. Autumn is a lovely time to visit Birdworld as the many trees turn on the autumn tints, which is all set off against the backdrop of the Alice Holt forest. At this time of year fungi are also often in abundance, adding to the colour. Not to be outdone, winter is the time to enjoy beautiful stems and barks before it all begins again for another year.

There are many seating areas around Birdworld, so visitors can take time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and if you see a plant that you really like, the award winning Forest Lodge Garden Centre is located just next-door.

Many of the garden areas are designed with the younger visitors in mind. There is always an adventure to be found in the willow maze or a dinosaur to spot in the bamboo lined paths of the lost trail. The amazing variety of mature trees and shrubs are an eye spy education all alone and many children take delight in gathering leaves, conkers and swash buckling sticks from around the grounds.
