Frequently asked questions

Do parrots make good pets? Unless you are prepared to be very committed then no. Parrots can live up to 80 years, have the mental age of a 3-year-old child and have a beak like a pair of pliers! Not the best combination for the average home!

How do the tropical birds survive in the cold? Most of the birds at Birdworld have been bred in the park or in other European zoos so they are well acclimatised to our temperatures. However we do provide shelters, most of which are heated in the colder months.

Why do you feed dead chicks to some of the birds? A number of our bird species eat meat as part of their diet and it is important that they get the whole carcass as this provides all of the nutritional requirements and in the case of birds of prey, provides the roughage for pellet formation. Although this may not look too nice we are sure you will agree that it is more important for the bird’s welfare than for our feelings.

If there is anything that you would like to know about Birdworld, please ask a member of the team, as we are always pleased to take the time to talk with our visitors.
