Birdworld has chosen to collaborate with Greenspan Projects Ltd, a specialist in creative design and construction for the visitor attraction industry. Their design philosophy blends technical expertise with a spirit of playful curiosity, ensuring that each project we undertake is adventurous and engaging. They are dedicated to creating environments that foster natural, self-directed play, essential for children's development and enjoyment by future generations.
Outdoor Play
The outdoor play scheme at Birdworld is thoughtfully designed to integrate with the natural landscape, utilizing the site's abundant trees. Inspired by Birdworld, the area features bird nest towers, connecting bridges, and a spiral clamber net, creating a seamless and immersive play environment. The ‘Spriglet Village’ enhances inclusivity, offering accessible pathways with varying heights to accommodate all abilities, including wheelchair users.
Each house within ‘Spriglet Village’ has a unique theme, such as a musical house with interactive sounds and an inventor’s house with gears and puzzle walls that spark curiosity and creativity. These spaces are designed to encourage imaginative play, sensory engagement, and inclusivity for all.
The main play area features an impressive spiral net and a ‘Chestnut’ trim trail with opportunities for climbing, balancing, and overcoming obstacles. Play elements like cradle and basket swings, various slides, climbing walls, rope courses, and bouldering structures are carefully crafted to build physical confidence, balance, and coordination. Rope bridges and clamber nets provide dynamic challenges that foster teamwork and spatial awareness. The entire play design is meticulously planned to cater to different age groups and abilities, ensuring a consistently engaging and accessible play experience.
Indoor Play
The Indoor play Area at Birdworld is designed to provide an adventurous, creative, and weatherproof space for younger children. Again, inspired by Birdworld, the area is filled with colourful and imaginative birdhouses that encourage exploratory play. A designated toddler area with seating nearby allows for easy supervision, ensuring a safe and engaging experience for the little ones.
Themed elements, such as slides, and tunnels on multiple levels, offer a variety of play opportunities. A large net play area mirrors the outdoor play space and includes soft play pieces to encourage collaborative play. Birdhouses are interconnected by platforms at different levels, allowing children to move freely throughout the space. ‘Spriglet’ houses are nestled within tree trunks and, like the outdoor play space, feature sensory play elements such as puzzle boards and interactive experiences.
Soft play elements in the toddler area and accessible routes throughout ensure that all children can enjoy the play experience. Each feature has been thoughtfully selected to maximize play value and engagement.
Water Play
The Water Play area blends traditional bird baths with interactive water elements, creating a harmonious space where children can connect with nature and engage in imaginative water play. Bird bath fountains, equipped with Robinia wooden troughs, sluice gates, and channels, allow children to control the flow of water, while clear signage and harmonious fencing ensure the area is safe and contained.
The play area features low-level log seating and staggered wooden platforms with integrated water pumps, decorated with sculpted leaves and branches. The bird baths offer multiple access points, shallow water channels, and troughs at a child-friendly height. The design also includes water channels at an appropriate height for wheelchair users, ensuring inclusivity for everyone. The water play space is designed to spark children’s imagination while seamlessly integrating with the overall play design.
